UN REDD Programme

This programme is the United Nations Collaborative initiative on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD) in developing countries.

The programme is focused in assisting developing countries to develop capacities to implement readiness on REDD+ - Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest degradation , and the role of Conservation, Sustainable Management of Forest and Enhancement of Forest Carbon Stocks in developing countries.

The UN REDD programme builds on the expertise of its three participating UN organizations (FAO, UNDP and UNEP) to deliver technical support and funding for REDD+ readiness and the development of REDD+ national strategies.


SES as one of the member of Advisor Committee for Europe in the Coordinadora de las Organizaciones Indígenas de la Cuenca Amazónica (COICA) it was invited to attend the UN-REDD Programme’s seventh Policy Board meeting, held in Berlín, Germany last 13th and 14th of October.

The programme is now providing direct support to 14 countries while also working with 21 other partner countries across Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America and the Caribbean.


The meeting was attended by 109 participants from more than 30 countries
Bolivia, Cambodia , Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Indonesia, Nigeria, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, Tanzania, Viet Nam and Zambia are receiving direct support to their national programmes. 

Valuable lessons learned and different regional and local experiences along different countries has been  presented and sharing during the meeting. In parallel, the 6 working areas for the period 2011-2015 has been presented by the Secretariat.
